How It Works

During my quest to keep the principles and universal truths inherent to Eastern healing philosophy in lockstep with modern technology, I became intrigued with laser light therapy, or PHOTOBIOMODULATION. Specifically, like a moth to the flame, I immersed myself in the study of the most effective and cutting age type of laser light therapy, the Class IV laser.

Scientific studies prove that treating injured cells with light waves 810 to 980 Hgz range of the electromagnetic spectrum is INCREDIBLY effective in stimulating the body's natural healing mechanism.  I learned that photobiomodulation is a safe, FDA approved therapy that is quite conservative and non-invasive compared to drugs and surgery. There is no link to cancer, tumors, metabolic disorders or any other disease process.

Treatment Targets

Photobiomodulation therapy can be targeted for injuries and conditions, literally, from head to toe.

Starting at the head, I have treated patients for common & migraine headaches and nerve pathologies such as Bell’s Palsy & Trigeminal Neuralgia. Additionally, it is extremely effective with TMJ (jaw pain and lock jaw) and post concussion symptoms

The laser is effective for neck pain and stimulation of the Vagus Nerve.

Research/ Articles

Class IV Laser Therapy is used by the nation's top athletes to speed up recovery time and prevent injury. Dr. Fastiggi has found the Class IV laser to be the most effective natural anti-inflammatory modality, producing undeniable results. He spoke with advocates of Class III and III(b) lasers compared to a Class IV laser to determine if they're equally effective. Despite the fact that both lasers delivered light waves in the 810 to 980 (nm) therapeutic range, the Class IV laser is 35 to 50 times more powerful and penetrates 2 to 3 times deeper than the Class III laser.  The roughly 8 cm depth of penetration of the Class IV laser allows Dr. Fastiggi to directly treat a bulging or herniated disc.

QUESTION AND ANSWER

Q: How many sessions does it take for the laser to be affective?

A  Depending upon the type of injury, the laser can effectively reduce the bruising from a sports injury in one session to shaving days and weeks from recovering from extreme sciatica. Dr. Fastiggi has seen Grade 1 & 2 Sprains reduced in several days. The biochemical result of Class IV laser usage is a vast acceleration of the normal healing process. This is why the U.S. military, professional sports teams in baseball, football, basketball and hockey, most major collegiate sports programs and countless MMA fighters depend on Class IV lasers for speedy natural recoveries.

Q: Does laser therapy hurt?

A. No!! The laser emits a soothing warm that bathes the injured tissue in natural light to induce enhanced recovery times. Most patients find it soothing.

Q: Is Deep Tissue Laser Therapy (Photobiomodulation) safe?

A  Yes!! It is FDA approved and has been used effectively for decades. A pregnant woman cannot be lasered on the abdomen. A laser cannot be applied to the torso of a patient with a pacemaker. The laser should not be used on a patient actively being treated for cancer via chemo therapy or radiation. Finally, the laser should not be applied to an open bleeding or oozing wound. All other patients are candidates for photobiomodulation therapy.
